Welcome to the website of
for those that love drawing, painting and making
Beginners sewing lessons are small groups where students will gain confidence in their sewing skills, both hand and machine. I am looking forward in passing on my creative ideas and experience and hope to give students a passion for making. I have a degree in textile design, have spent 2 years as a textile technician in a secondary school and have qualified as a DT teacher, specialising in textiles.
In my experience of secondary schools, pupils are not getting enough practical experience so it is difficult for pupils to gain confidence in sewing as textiles in the curriculum can often be squeezed and the sewing machines at schools can be few and in poor condition.
In these beginner classes students will design and make a pencil case and cushion and learn:
How to cut and pin fabric using a simple pattern
How to thread the machine and wind a bobbin
How to sew straight seams and how to finish them
How to select the right sewing stitches
How to insert a regular zip
